Self-Harm Support

Information and signposting for those affected by self-harm.

Understanding self-harm support

Self-harm is when someone hurts themselves as a way of dealing with difficult feelings, memories, or overwhelming situations. It's more common than many people think, and with the right support, people can find other ways to cope. This page provides signposting to specialist support.

Coping Strategies

  • 1

Delay the urge - try to wait 10 minutes before acting on the urge to self-harm

  • 2

Distraction techniques - hold ice cubes, snap a rubber band on your wrist, or do intense exercise

  • 3

Talk to someone you trust about how you're feeling - you don't have to go through this alone

When to Seek Professional Help
