OCD
Understanding obsessive-compulsive symptoms and how to manage them.
Understanding ocd
OCD involves unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) that a person feels driven to perform. The compulsions are often aimed at reducing the anxiety caused by the obsessions, but this relief is temporary.
Coping Strategies
- 1
Try to resist compulsions gradually - start with the easiest ones first
- 2
Remember that intrusive thoughts are just thoughts, not facts or predictions
- 3
Use delay tactics - when you feel the urge to do a compulsion, wait for a few minutes
